Different isomers can be drawn for the chemical formula of C4H6. Because, this chemical formula contains only four carbon atoms cyclic structures can be drawn too such as aliphatic structures.
In this tutorial, we will discuss followings.
We can draw aliphatic and cyclic isomers for C4H6. Aromatic isomers are not possible because number of carbon atoms are less than six.
Because C4H6 chemical formula follows the aliphatic alkyne compound formula, we can guess there are double bonds in isomers. But, as triple bonds, there can be two double bonds except one triple bond.
Therefore, we can draw two structures which contain an alkyne group and two structures which contain two alkene groups.
Positional isomers are defined as constitutional isomers that have the same carbon skeleton (chain) and the same functional groups (such as -OH, -Cl, -Br, -NH2, -COOH, etc) but differ from each other in the location of the functional groups on or in the carbon chain.
1-butyne and 2-butyne are Positional isomers of each other. As well, 1,2-butene and 1,3-dibutene are positional isomers of each other.
